PokerStars is currently running satellites for the EPT (European Poker Tour) Vilamoura which will take place in beautiful Portugal, Algarve coast to be exact. The tournament will take place on a gorgeous resort which is frequently visited by those looking to be surrounded by serenity and beauty. Soon, it will be the backdrop for top poker players competing to become this events last man (or woman) standing. Along with poker, participants and fans alike, will have the opportunity golf at one of the outstanding local clubs.

Last years event was a great success, so much so that Pokestars decided to give their players a chance to enjoy the resorts first class amenities such as the fantastic beaches, great bars, terrific restaurants and as stated above, stunning golf courses by offering a number of satellite events.

In 2009, 322 players participated. In all, the prize pool totaled €1.5 million, a figure so high that it ranks as the biggest (in terms of cash) tournament ever to be hosted in Portugal, a pretty impressive feat.

The final table was a memorable one. It included Jeff Sarwer who is not only a competitive poker player but an excellent Canadian chess player. Jan Skampa a pro from Czech who would go on to win EPT-Prague and Michel Abecassis, a Frenchman. However, although the field was a competitive full of poker pros and veterans, it was Antonio Matias, a local businessman who bested the field. His outstanding play earned him €404, 793.

The satellite package being given away by PokerStars is worth €7,330. It will cover the buy-in for the Main Event, the player’s hotel stay at the Crowne Plaza Hotel and 770 worth of expenses. Those hoping to participate in EPT Vilamoura can attempt to win their way in via satellites currently being offered at PokerStars. Buy-ins are as low as €5.45. Players can also participate using their Frequent Player Points. Satellite events require 50 FPPs.
