Every year, the big boys from the big schools get all the publicity when its time to talk Heisman. Today, we are going to look at the sleepers, those guys that are undeniably good players but who aren’t often mentioned as contenders for college football’s biggest honors. Three of our five picks hail from down south. Our top five sleepers are Kellen Moore, Christian Ponder, Damien Berry, A.J. Green and Ricky Stanzi. Below, we’ll look at each a bit closer.

BetUS has up to date Heisman Trophy Winner odds!

Kellen Moore: Moore has had an unbelievable season a Boise State. The starter at quarterback for three years, last year he and his fellow Broncos but together an undefeated season.

Christian Ponder: Ponder is a quarterback for Florida State. Though Christian only missed for games last season, when he was on the field he performed extremely well, especially when he brought the Seminoles back from the brink against North Carolina in the fourth quarter. The odds that Christian will pull an upset are +1500.

Damien Berry: Berry is another long shot. The running back from the University of Miami has the speed to be a break out star. Oddmakers list Damien’s odds of winning the Heisman +2000.

A.J. Green: Green hails from the University of Georgia. He is a wide receiver with very good speed. At 6 ft. 4, he’s tall for a punt returner but will be one of the team’s biggest threats at this position. Only two receivers have won a Heisman, Desmond Howard and Tim Brown, and both were great punt returners. Perhaps A.J. Green will follow in his footsteps.

Ricky Stanzi: Stanzi is the third quarterback on our lists. He is from the University of Iowa. His numbers aren’t gaudy but he gets the job done and is always a threat.

Mark Ingram won the Heisman trophy last year and he is the favorite to repeat at +350. However, some don’t believe that he can do it because rumor has it that he will have to share time with an up-and-coming running back, Trent Richardson.
