If you are a basketball fan, then you had to appreciate the free agency process in 2010. It provided a tremendous amount of excitement and was full of surprises. Many of today’s biggest superstars had huge decisions to make, would they stay or would they go? Many decided to go.
Going into the free agency period, most everyone was interested in where Lebron James would end up. There was a great deal of speculation. However, Chicago and New York were considered the front-runners if James decided to leave Cleveland. Though there was a lot of money to be made if the decided to move on, there were many people who thought that he would stay in Cleveland. They figured his heart was too connected to his home state. It was thus, very surprising when he decided to move to Miami and become a member of the Heat, joining one other superstar (Dwyane Wade) and a up-and-coming star, Chris Bosh. Lebron made his announcement to leave Cleveland and sign with Miami on national television on ESPN, which was met with universal disdain. One person commented that no matter what, “you don’t break up with your girlfriend on national television” and that’s exactly what James seemed to do.
The free agency period wasn’t all about Lebron, other major stars who had a chance to leave and find new teams were Dewayne Wade, who stayed in Miami, Carlos Boozer who signed with Chicago and Amare Stoudemire who became a Knick.
All-in-all, the 2010 National Basketball Association Free Agency was an unforgettable one. There was a great deal of speculation and everyone had their opinion about the final destinations of the aforementioned free agents. The biggest bit of disdain seemed to be aimed at Lebron. The trio of him, Wade and Bosh seems to be an embarrassment of riches and the fact that James has paired up with Wade, an already established star, is seen as a no-no, at least amongst Hall of Famers, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley and Magic Johnson.
