Sorel Mizzi is a top poker pro who has made a name for himself playing online as well as in some of the largest poker tournaments in the world. Last year Mizzi was named the Bluff Magazine Player of the Year and after a year of success he now faces cheating accusations that are sure to hurt his reputation – again.
Mizzi is no stranger to controversy as he has been accused of things in the past like multi-accounting and using a program to play many accounts in one tournament. Now Mizzi’s name has come up on the 2+2 poker forum and he has been accused of cheating at the PCA while playing with another pro.
Shaun Deeb posted in the 2+2 forum recently about a conversation that he had with John Racener. Deeb said that Racener had been playing Chinese Poker at the PCA with Mizzi when he caught the pro dealing off the bottom of the deck.
Deeb went on to say that he had spoken with Mizzi about the PCA instance and Sorel had this to say after a few hours had went by:
“I don’t really know what to say, he says that I dealt myself a joker from the bottom of the deck when I didn’t . People have done it b4 to me and they’ll do it again, seems like every 2 months I have to defend myself vs. some sort of accusation with no proof and I’m rly sick of it.
I’ve been accused of just about everything, pretty sure if u said I was responsible for the 9/11 attacks a certain % of people would believe u. The reality of it is if u post these accusations on 2p2 the majority of ppl will believe you over me, you can say anything, I’m wide open and completely vulnerable to being accused of anything shady and having people believe it.”
Since the release of Sorel’s statement above on 2+2, Racener actually came forward and backpedaled a bit regarding the allegations, expressing “regret” that it was made public and he had confided in Deeb to reveal the story in the first place.
