New Jersey Governor Steve Christie has a big decision to make over the next few days. On top of  his normal agenda, Christie has to deal with two different gambling bills that have been sent to his desk, both of which involve gambling. However, one bill is a bigger deal than the other as it deals with online gambling. If Christie decides to pass the bill New Jersey would be a front runner in the bid to bring back online gambling to the US.

One piece of legislation would legalize sports betting while the other focuses on regulating online gambling. If the governor passes these new pieces of legislation it could mean a complete turnaround for Atlantic City casinos.

Normally the governor will have forty five days to sign or veto a bill once it has been passed by lawmakers. However this time the governor has an extra week since the congressional committees will not be meeting until March 3^rd. The extra time gives groups who want to see the bill passed extra time to try and plead their case.

Christie is being pressured by both sides of the table on this issue. Republican leaders do not want to see the bill passes so they want to see the Governor veto the bill. However, Atlantic City casinos want to see the legislation passes and they are a big part of the economy in the state.

If the bill is passed the casinos in Atlantic City would be able to offer casino games online to residents of the state that are of age to gamble. Players who live out of state would not be able to place wagers online at the casinos.

It seems as though many states are waiting for someone to make a move and pass online gambling or online poker legislation. When this happens we should see several states follow suit.
