Men Playing in the 2010 WSOP Ladies Event?

Written by Thomas | Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Recently, men who entered the 2010 ladies event at the World Series of Poker, have gotten themselves in a bit of trouble. Men who entered the tournament could be looking at a possible suspension or ban from future WSOP events. The communications director for the World Series of Poker Seth Palansky told Card Player the suspensions are “likely”, and will be handed down soon.

Close to ten men were confirmed to be playing in the ladies tournament, and now there is going to be repercussions against these men. It is said that the tournament directors could not legally prevent men from entering the event, but have always discouraged them from doing it before. There has been men that have played in the tournament before, but never this many.

Davis Sesson is said to have been the director of the men joining the tournament. He entered the tournament with a group of friends. Sesso is to have said a few “choice words” regarding women and them playing in men events. He also says he was certainly discouraged not to join the tournament, but no punishment was ever discussed.  Some of the men that got into the tournament even took it to the next level and dressed up like ladies. All this for a game of poker! The bans for the players have been discussed from a year to lifetime for entering the tournament.

So, the thoughts on this. First of all, these men are acting like idiots. Just leave it alone, and let the ladies have their fun. Do I think there should be a men’s tournament as well, sure, but work on getting that taken care of – not spoiling the fun, and looking like an idiot in the process. Ladies playing poker only represent between 5 and 10% of the players playing. The all ladies tournament brings in over 1000 women, some who have never played in a poker tournament before.

So if this tournament, without men is bringing popularity – let it go. Do us a favor men – stay out of women’s poker tournaments!
