Lee Jones Resigns From Cake Poker

Cake Poker spokesman and representative Lee Jones made a surprise announcement earlier this week when he came forward on the popular poker forum over at 2+2 and said he would be resigning from Cake Poker effective immediately. Lee Jones gained notable fame as the prime face behind PokerStars when they were emerging as a super brand in the industry, and was also the author of one of the best low-stakes limit hold em books on the market.

Cake Poker has experienced a dramatic dip in poker traffic over the last year, and has succumbed to new power players over at the Merge Network in recent months. The move by Sportsbook.com and PlayersOnly to move their poker platforms over from Cake to Merge was a big reason traffic has been at an all-time high for Merge, with their flagship room over at Carbon Poker pounding away at Cake’s poker base and attracting traffic over to their brand as of late.

The post regarding the resignation move was rather brief and had pointed to Cake’s management as the prime reason for him wanting to leave his post at the once uber-popular poker site.

“…Management has made some strategic decisions with which I’m not comfortable. Please direct any questions or concerns to the Cake support staff; they are top-notch people.”

There hasn’t been much that has been commented on since the announcement, but we’ll make sure to keep you posted if anything else comes to light regarding Jones or the Cake Poker network in general. In addition, it is unclear whether Cake is planning any major moves for the new year as of right now.
