Deadline Passes for Poker Bill in Hawaii…

Another state handed a silent defeat in its efforts to legalize online poker within their region – and not just via the internet, but making live poker available as well.
Congress’s most recent efforts to try and get poker regulated and taxed fell short again, with Hawaii joining the likes of New Jersey in their recent bid to legalize online poker within the state’s borders.
Hawaii and Utah are 1 of only 2 states that still has no legal form of gambling within their respective regions, and this news is certainly that much more disheartening for poker fans coming out of the Aloha state.
The measure had aimed at legalizing skill games like Texas Holdem and Omaha, but unfortunately time lapsed away as it passed the weekend deadline to get it presented in front of the legislature.
“For the silent working majority of Hawaii, this offered revenue to the state without the social ills of other types of gaming, and it was a way to avoid nasty tax increases,” said Rep. Angus McKelvey in a brief statement earlier in the week.
The bill was introduced as an additional way for the state to boost tourism through online betting, as well as through internet and live poker.
It is unsure whether the bill will be presented again towards the end of 2011.
