2011 World Series of Poker Schedule Released
Written by Sadonna | Tuesday, January 25th, 2011
The 2011 WSOP schedule was officially released and posted this week on the WSOP’s official website. This year’s poker mecca will officially begin on May 31st, 2011, and will feature 58 total bracelet events, with the Main Event starting play on July 7th. Last year’s WSOP was one of the largest overall tournament fields in the history of the 30+ year tournament series.
All play will of course be done at the Rio Casino and Resort, who has been host to the event for several+ years now. It is expected to be yet another record-shattering series this year, especially with the elimination of $2k events and the addition of more $1,000 and $1,500 bracelet events being put in their place.
One of the more significant changes that this year’s World Series will feature is a $25,000 Heads-Up event that will take place at the beginning of the summer’s festivities. There will be a maximum of 256 entrants allowed and will have a possible prize pool of $6.4 million if it sells out.
In addition, a $5,000 6-handed Pot-Limit Omaha and $2,500 Ten Game bracelet event has also been added to the mix, along with the elusive $3,000 Limit Holdem tournament being re-included into the schedule after a notable layoff from the schedule over the past few years.
The grand daddy of them – aka the Main Event – will also start in 3- to 4-day waves to handle the large opening field it’s once again expecting. It will be played down to 9 people from July 7th through July 19th, and the final 9 players will have a few month-layoff to prepare for the live November final table, with the event being replayed on ESPN a few days after the champion is crowned.
