Top 5 Best Bets for 2011 MLB Opening Day

Written by Thomas | Friday, April 1st, 2011

Calling all baseball fans.  The 2011 Major League Baseball season has officially started.  And with a bunch of games going down to the wire earlier today, tomorrow should be no different.  I mean come on…it’s Opening Day – Day 2 edition!

There are 11 games on tap for Friday.  Do you like to bet on baseball?  If not – you really should.  We have thrown together a post with our top 5 best bets for the 2011 MLB opening day, and have a wide array of betting websites for you to choose from when it comes to throwing down a couple wagers.

1. Boston Red Sox -117: How many times this season do you think the Red Sox will be “just” -117 betting odds?  Very few.  Take advantage of these great odds and bet on Boston to beat the Texas Rangers.  The Rangers have C.J. Wilson on the mound, who had a great 2010, but we think it may have been a bit of a fluke.

John Lester is a legit opening day starter for the BoSox and has been known to handle the pressure.  The Red Sox offense will be ready to display what they have.  Bet on the Red Sox -117 as your top bet for Friday.

2. Toronto Bluejays -124: Over the past few years the Bluejays really have beaten up on the Minnesota Twins.  Look for this trend to continue in 2011.

They are slight favorites in their home opener.  Bet on Jose Bautista and the Toronto Bluejays -124 with a lot of confidence on Friday.

3. Los Angeles Dodgers -114: The Giants are a little banged up and might have a rough start in 2011.  The Dodgers are still on a high from the Don Mattingly hire as manager.

We think Billingsley will do the job for the Dodgers and improve LA to 2-0 on the season.  A decent bet for Friday would be the Los Angeles Dodgers -114.

4. Chicago White Sox / Cleveland Indians Over 8: These two teams can put up some runs.  Mark Buehrle and Fausto Carmona are on the mound and both can be known to give up some runs.

The betting trends also point to these two teams playing high scoring (OVER) baseball.  If you like to bet MLB totals you should look into the White Sox / Indians Over 8 for Friday’s opener in Cleveland.

5. Florida Marlins -167: Josh Johnson is a legit stud.  We always hate laying this much juice (-167) but in this case it is a good bet.  Josh Johnson will not lose at home, on opening day, to Mike Pelfrey.

Is that even possible?  Sure, anything is possible in Major League Baseball – but we like our chances with Johnson on the mound.  Bet on the Marlins -167.

So those are our top 5 bets for the 2011 MLB opening day.  Hopefully we send you some winners and help increase your bankroll for the rest of the season.  Before we go, we will leave you with one UPSET SPECIAL that you may want to consider: Baltimore Orioles +180

This is a solid underdog bet if you don’t mind taking some changes.  Good luck and lets win some money G666 readers!
