In a headline that will make all poker fans jump to their seats, Miramax Films have confirm that they will be producing a sequel to the 1998 cult-hit poker movie “Rounders.”

According to IMDB and Wikipedia, Rounders 2 is currently in development and is due to be released in cinemas in 2018.

Miramax broke the news released on Thursday, stating that, “Miramax and the Weinstein Company today announced an agreement to create sequels to some of Miramax’s best-known properties and to partner on potential new television shows and special edition home entertainment products. The first films to be produced under the agreement will be sequels to ‘Bad Santa,’ ‘Rounders,’ and ‘Shakespeare in Love.’” The list of potential projects listed later in the press release included “Bridget Jones’ Diary,” “Cop Land,” “From Dusk Till Dawn,” “Swingers.” “Clerks,” “Shall We Dance,” and “The Amityville Horror.”

The original Rounders movie, which featured Hollywood stars Matt Damon, Edward Norton and John Malkovich, is suggested to have made Texas Holdem and online poker sites in general a lot more popular in both the States and Europe.  Poker players will be happy to hear that both of the original cast members Matt “Bourne” Damon and Edward Norton have signed on to do the sequel in addition the director John Dahl.

For those of you who’ve never watched Rounders – as both a poker player and film aficionados I highly recommend renting it.  Some of the most memorable lines which have reverberated around the 2+2 communities from the movie include “In the Poker Game of Life, Women are Rake” and “If you can’t spot the sucker in the first half hour at the table, then you are the sucker.”  The last line is very true, especially if you’re sitting at a table of fish at some of the easiest poker sites and you’ve yet to earn 2 BB’s worth of profit after the first few orbs, haha.
