Recently Updated Online Poker Amendment Dead?

According to sources close to ESPN and the PPA, there are strong talks that the bill to include legal online poker in America is now dead and won’t be coming up for vote during this lame-duck session of Congress.  Other news outlets like CalvinAyre.com are also reporting that the bill to legalize internet poker in the states has hit a stand-still and Nevada Senator Harry Reid’s efforts to get it possibly attached to other spending bills (IE the Bush Tax Cuts) would not be happening.

As this has always been a developing story, especially for all the fanboys at 2+2 and other poker forums, this recent revelation seems to show that online poker in the USA is dead for the time being.  While it was never confirmed that the bill had high hopes of passing, it seemed like it always a coinflip that the measure might actually go into effect during this particular session of Congress.

As time went on, the possibility of the bill actually passing went from a modest 50/50 ‘flip to an abysmal 30/70 longshot – and with the recent news that has just gotten to us minutes ago, it looks like the percentages are dwindling even further than that.

As most other gambling outlets are currently reporting, it looks like as of right now the online poker legalization reform is dead – with ESPN.com‘s Andrew Feldman saying moments ago that it “was simply left behind…”
