How Good is Phil Hellmuth Really?

For those familiar with poker, the name Phil Hellmuth is synonymous with poker greatness. Hellmuth is widely considered to be one of the game’s best Texas Hold’em players. Some even suggest that he is the greatest player to have ever played the game. While the latter may be up for debate, there is no argument that Phil Hellmuth can play poker and is a force to be reckoned with at the tables.
Hellmuth has won an extremely impressive 11 World Series of Poker (WSOP) titles, his 11th bracelet coming in 2007. Even when he isn’t racking up championships in WSOP events, he is still cashing. Over his career Phil has cashed a whopping 68 times in World Series of Poker tournaments. He also has made the most final table appearances with 41. It goes without saying that Hellmuth has made lots of money playing poker. Between his 11 WSOP championships and finishes in main events, he has managed to do very well for himself and his family.
One of Phil’s biggest claims to fame is that he was the youngest player to ever win a World Series of Poker Main Event. In the process of setting this record, he bested the two time defending champion, poker ace, Johnny Chan and at the age of 24, became the youngest player to take home a WSOP Main Event Championship bracelet. He has been enhancing his reputation ever since and building a case to be considered one of the all time poker greats.
In 1993, Hellmuth would again enter the record books. This time, he would break the record for most bracelets won in one year when he took home three and finished second in another event. Phil has won so many bracelets that he now gives them away upon receiving them. So far, his dad, mom, wife, brother, three sisters, two sons and a few friends have all received a World Series of Poker championship bracelet. He hasn’t however, given them all away. He kept the first one for himself. I think it’s safe to say that Phil Hellmuth is really, really good at poker.
