No Men Allowed: PokerStars Starts Poker League For Ladies Only

Written by Thomas | Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

PokerStars is a launching a poker league strictly for the fairer sex. Their poker league for women will leave nearly half of the population out. But in today’s game is it really needed? Women are more then able to handle themselves on the felt.

In this year’s (2010) World Series of Pokers Ladies’ Only Event, there were some notable event crashers. A few men, some dressed in drag, sat down to play much to the chagrin of many of the women players. Shaun Deeb was one of those crashers. According to some of the men, they only crashed the party after losing a prop bet and there was no offense intended. While this was at least a bit humorous (at least to some people), perhaps it should make us consider the necessity of gender-only events. Aren’t women able to play at all major professional poker tournaments, games and leagues? There aren’t many all-male leagues sponsored by major poker websites or companies. PokerStars doesn’t seem to be too bothered about the aforementioned arguments and are proceeding with the league.

PokerStars Women’s Poker League will give women from all over the globe a chance to compete for special prizes and giveaways. Poker tournaments have already begun and competition will last until the conclusion of 2010. Players have the opportunity to win leaderboard prizes given out each month and at the end of the year. Leaders are awarded PokerStars Ladies Luxury Event packages. Rumor has it, that these packages will include entry into a ladies-only live tournament that has yet to be announced.

Tournament games are played each day at 1:10 P.M. EST and 8:10 P.M. EST. All players that cash will accumulate Leaderboard points.

If you are a woman and would like to join PokerStars Women’s Poker League, you can do so by joining the popular poker website. You’ll have the opportunity to play for cash and special prizes. Buy-ins are low. Therefore, most poker players will find tournament play to be quite affordable.
