British Open Championship 2010 Odds

This year’s British Open is returning to the Old Course at St. Andrews in Fife, Scotland. The tournament is played there every 5 years. A simple calculation places the last British Open event there in 2005. Tiger Woods was the winner. His shaky play as of late, coupled with very serious personal problems, has some people doubting Tiger’s ability to pull off a win this year. However, though the public might have, it doesn’t seem that the odds makers have written him off. He is listed as this year’s favorite at BetUs.com. Tiger Wood’s odds are +250. Every $10 a player bets, they stand to win $25 in return.

The odds for Padraig Harrington, is +1400. He won the event in 2008 and 2009.  Players Lee Westwood, Phil Nickelson, Rory Mcllroy and Ernie Els have been given +1200 odds. The rest of the field have been assigned 25/1 odds or better.

For those planning on tuning in to the tournament, it is set to begin in just a few days. This year’s British Open will be played July 15th-July 18th. One of the more popular sporting events in the United Kingdom, many people there will be betting on this year’s outcome.

Every five years Scotland has the honor of hosting this very prestigious event.  The Old Course has a lot of history and returning to it via the British Open is one way to pay homage. There have been some standout performances at the Old Course, perhaps none better then Tiger Wood’s showing at the 2000 British Open. He shot a record-shattering 19 under par. Though his 2005 play wasn’t as impressive by some people’s estimation, he did manage to play well enough to win.

Many are wondering whether or not Woods will be able to pull it together in order to successfully compete at this year’s Open. Tiger’s play as of late, has been less then stellar though understandably so. Woods has been embroiled in an off-the links scandal and is reportedly divorcing his wife, Elin.
